It’s hard to believe that 2021 marks Sparktank’s 20th Anniversary. I can still remember the apartment I started the business in. It was the year 2001 and after going back to school to study “multimedia” and having a couple fantastic jobs in the industry, I decided to pursue my dream of owning my own business. I figured I could get a few “gigs” making websites for people – something that there was little competition in back then. Well a few “gigs” turned into a lot of “gigs” and eventually that lead to growing the business and building a great team.
Over time, we added on additional services such as print design, SEO and digital advertising. I remember a time when getting someone on the first page of the search engines only required entering a few random keywords into the website’s HTML. Those were the days! These additional services allowed us to focus on creative work to build our clients’ brands and marketing to boost their revenues. These 2 areas are still our main focus to this day.
In 2015, after working with a couple franchise clients, we pivoted to focusing mainly on franchise marketing. This was probably the best decision I ever made as a business owner. We were fortunate to get the opportunity to work with some very successful brands early on. On a personal note, I was thrilled to specialize in an area that I truly enjoyed and that remains a very exciting and growing vertical.
When I think back to the many businesses and clients, big or small, that we’ve had the pleasure to work with and the wonderful team members that I couldn’t have survived without, I feel truly grateful. Marketing is constantly changing and that’s what I love about it. I can honestly say there hasn’t been a dull moment.
It’s been my privilege to fulfill our mission of helping businesses grow and I look forward to the next 20 years!
